Hello {{first_name | Friend}},
Today’s prompt flips traditional copywriting on its head: sometimes, the best promise is what you won’t do.
Copy Prompt
Gary Bencivenga understood something subtle about persuasion: when everyone is shouting their promises, the brand that draws boundaries earns trust.
That’s the Negative Promise, telling your audience what you refuse to do. It signals confidence, integrity, and standards.
Look at how it reframes:
“We don’t use fake countdown timers. We’d rather earn your urgency, not manufacture it.”
“We don’t hire influencers. We hire experts who actually do the work.”
“We’ll never spam your inbox, only insights worth reading.”
See the shift? Instead of blending in with endless claims, your copy stands apart by taking a stand.
Today’s drill: Write 3 negative promises for your brand or product. Each one should draw a clear line in the sand about what you don’t do and, by contrast, what you do better.
Because in a world full of “we do everything,” the brand that says “we don’t” feels refreshingly real.
